forbidding. Free Improvisation: A Practical Guide provides a practical way for any group of
people, no matter what their style of music or level of musicianship, to learn about
improvising together. With over 100 improvisational exercises and invaluable instructional
tips, this book is an essential tool for every musician, teacher, or music lover.

The Book:
Improvisation is a big part of our daily lives, essential to the things we love to do and the
music we love to hear. Improvising together seems natural when we’re playing a game or
having a conversation, yet improvising music together is often viewed as mysterious and

Please join us for this special evening at Boston's Renowned Jazz Club, Scullers, for a night of Swinging Jazz Standards. We'll be playing songs from our latest CD, "Fun Out of Life". This will be a great chance to hear these songs performed live by April and her close knit ensemble in a intimate concert setting in this beautiful night club. We look forward to sharing a great evening with you! For more information: www.scullersjazz.com
About the CD:On her latest CD, “Fun Out of Life”, April Hall revitalizes the classic jazz standard, creating music that’s alive with energy and attitude. From subtly nuanced ballads to soul-drenched blues, the emotional power of her delivery is perfectly framed by the elegant simplicity of her arrangements.
Hall’s performance is deeply personal on “I’ve Got the World on a String” and unapologetically swinging on “Foolin’ Myself”. She sings Jimmy Rushing’s “Boogie Woogie Blues” with an authentic southern swagger, and gives an unforgettably sultry rendition of Percy Mayfield‘s protest song “Please Send Me Someone to Love” (featuring New Orleans saxophonist Amadee Castenell, of Allen Toussaint and Elvis Costello).
Add to these stunning vocals a stellar ensemble that organically follows the lead of Hall’s exquisite phrasing, and you can be sure that this collection of great American songs will provide any lover of vocal jazz with a great deal of “Fun Out of Life”!
